The Hudak Report 04/10/25

For a long time now, I’ve tried to have 5-6 featured stories, 10 stories in the Canada & USA section (5 Canadian stories and 5 USA stories) and 8 world news stories. That worked great…until Trump became President again. Then Canadian elections were announced. Also, the rest of the world keeps getting more wild. Now, so much is happening, especially stuff that matters to the American & Canadian left that it feels like an impossible task to have that few stories. I spend so much time now fretting over which stories to cut and which not too. So, I’m experimenting around with new formats to include more news without the article getting out of hand length-wise. This is the first test format. Please let me know what your thoughts are on it.

The Trump administration is continuing to cancel visas of international students and alumni. Here’s where they pulled visas from most recently:

Here are updates on ongoing stories of students the administration has tried to rid of:

Speaking of Chinese people living in America that the administration has targeted, an unnamed Chinese woman died in custody due to border patrol agents failing to conduct wellness checks.

That’s not all on the immigration front, though:

Then, Trump is looking to punish Maine for refusing to comply to his fascistic orders:

Meanwhile, in Canada, federal election campaigning is going on. Here’s your updates on the election:

In other Canadian news, the effects of Trump’s tariffs are being felt as layoffs are becoming more common. Then, it was discovered that the “loan” for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion was primarily advanced as equity. Finally, some University of British Columbia professors (and a graduate student) are suing UBC for engaging in "political activity." In other words, they want the University to not take any progressive stances.

Leftover stories:

So much happens daily in the Israeli genocide of Palestinians that I’m sure I missed some news. But, here is what I did find regarding the genocide:

Meanwhile, in Africa, here are some things worth knowing about:

We end with two of the most important stories in the world. First, Greece has gone on a general strike. Greeks are protesting over many things, but namely, justice over the Tempi train crash, restoration of lost labor rights, less military spending, and the housing crisis. Finally, in the other highly important story, the notorious spyware Pegasus was used against 1,223 WhatsApp users in 51 different countries.
